PC-Horse comes with two feedlists - the Guaranty Feedlist and the National Feedlist. You will find the on the top of the treeview on the main screen.
Guaranty feedlist - is a feed list made for each country. In UK the list is named UK Guarantyfeeds. Several feed companies have chosen to cooperate with PC-Horse to support your work. Feeds from these companies are predefined in PC-Horse when you download it from the web. Our experts have checked that the nutrient analyses are in line with those presented in the product sheets from the companies, and expressed in the nationla units relevant to the country where the program is used. The national autorities require feed producers to comply the rules and regulations given centrally by EU. The feed companies are responsible for the declaration of nutrient contents. PC-Horse can not take responsibility for errors in the declarations from feed companies. National feedlist - is a feedlist containg brand- and productnames for a considerable proportion of the feeds marketed in the country. In UK the feedlist is named UK_feeds. The national feedlist provides you with an overview of feeds and nutrition supplements which will help in searching for alternative feeds or supplements for your horse or stable. Please note that the feeds that have selected not to participate in the Guaranty feedlist lacks information on nutrient content. You will have to obtain and enter the nutrients into PC-Horse in the form of "Ownerdefined feeds". You have to be careful to provide correct values from the producer. New and updated feedlists - Feedlists willbe updated on through the update center in PC-Horse when new feeds are introduced by our collaborating feed companies, or when market requires it. Calculations of energy and protein - Some feed constituents, like energy and protein, may be analysed and expressed differently by different feed producers. As long as the units for nutrients provided are the same, differences in analytical methodology create major errors in the calculations performed by PC-Horse. A notable exception is the expression of protein content as "crude protein" or "digestible crude protein". If requirements are given as digestible crude protein (Scandinavia) and feed protein is expressed as crude protein (UK, USA), severe undersupply of protein will result. It is therefore extremely important to be sure about the basis for expressing nutrient concentrations when transporting feeds across borders, even in Europe. The "Global" version of PC-Horse will do these adjustments safely for feeds from different countries. Declaration of minerals and vitamines - Acording to many national authorities trace minerals must be declared as "added per kilo feed". In such cases the content of nutrients in the natural feed ingredients are not known, and a calculated deficit of a mineral or an vitamin may therefore in special cases be erroneous. |
